Bikes in Bloom

Buffalo , New York is not exactly known for its long balmy summers. Instead upon mention most people shiver and say either “have you had chicken wings” or the equally popular “how do you live THERE?” Yes, I am willing to bet that with the exception of vegetarians and individuals who do not like [...]

Beti Bike Bash

Beti Bike Bash

Colorado’s first, women-only mountain bike race kicked off last weekend under a warm sun at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood. The event was conceived and planned by Colorado’s own Yeti Beti women’s mountain bike racing team and assisted on Sunday by most of the team’s sponsors, loud music and cold beer. When planning began in [...]

Off to America!

Off to America!

It’s been a few days of being on the road now. Balancing my desire to see and document food and farming projects is constantly in loggerheads with my subsistence needs of eating, sleeping, and just making it from point A to point B. So here I am about 5 days into my food themed bike [...]

Feel Good Food Ride

Feel Good Food Ride

There’s been this tiny seed of an idea hibernating in my head for a while…and I don’t really know what made it want to germinate, but this Spring it sprouted. Instead of rooting firmly in soil, this little seed’s root is the road. And this is how I came to my decision to leave my [...]

“You can only go as far as your feet will take you” Review of Drymax cycling socks

By Katherine Fuller

A couple of years ago, I lost most of my practical restraint when it came to cycling gear. Even though I’m not a pro-level bike racer, I still want exceptionally comfortable shorts, equally excellent shoes, well-made jerseys and properly-fitting sunglasses with specialty lenses. But until recently, I held out on spending good money for socks. Continue Reading

Interview with Sally Edwards

Interview with Sally Edwards

I was absolutely delighted and admittedly a little intimidated when I dialed Sally Edward’s phone number last Friday. This is a woman who has an amazing history in women’s sport. As an inspirational and motivational speaker Sally gets audiences to literally jump to their feet as she engages them showing them how to get up, and get active! At age 62, Sally has over 130 sprint distance triathlons under her belt, she is a 16 time Ironman Finisher, and an inductee to the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame. She is a past winner of the 100 mile Western States Endurance Run. And on top of those achievements, she is also what some may affectionately call a “serial entrepreneur”.She is CEO of Heart Zones, USA, a training, education, programming, and coaching company and Upbeat Workouts, the new iPhone app. And she has more in the works. Sally is a best-selling author with more than 20 books and 500 articles on health and fitness including the popular book Heart Rate Monitor Guidebook and The Complete Book of Triathlons.

Perhaps the best summation of Sally is that the Sally Edward’s Company’s byline is “a media company dedicated to uncommonly vibrant lifestyles”.

But once I introduced myself I felt instantly at ease. Sally Edwards is a sparky woman! In our phone interview I felt her wonderful sense of purpose: to inspire women to be the best they can be. She is opinionated, and bends to no one and I found that very refreshing. She is not about the trophies or winning, rather the participation and ultimately the happiness and fun that come from being active and “finding your inner athlete”.

Specialized Zee bottle cage

Specialized Zee bottle cage

Struggling with cramped water bottles on a small or compact frame? Specialized has an answer.

While the Specialized “Zee” bottle cage is not made specifically for women, it’s perfect for those of us who find that the small frames we ride are not well suited for carrying two bottles. The bottoms bump into each other and the low or sloping top bar leaves little room to remove and replace the bottles.
