I was absolutely delighted and admittedly a little intimidated when I dialed Sally Edward’s phone number last Friday. This is a woman who has an amazing history in women’s sport. As an inspirational and motivational speaker Sally gets audiences to literally jump to their feet as she engages them showing them how to get up, and get active! At age 62, Sally has over 130 sprint distance triathlons under her belt, she is a 16 time Ironman Finisher, and an inductee to the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame. She is a past winner of the 100 mile Western States Endurance Run. And on top of those achievements, she is also what some may affectionately call a “serial entrepreneur”.She is CEO of Heart Zones, USA, a training, education, programming, and coaching company and Upbeat Workouts, the new iPhone app. And she has more in the works. Sally is a best-selling author with more than 20 books and 500 articles on health and fitness including the popular book Heart Rate Monitor Guidebook and The Complete Book of Triathlons.
Perhaps the best summation of Sally is that the Sally Edward’s Company’s byline is “a media company dedicated to uncommonly vibrant lifestyles”.
But once I introduced myself I felt instantly at ease. Sally Edwards is a sparky woman! In our phone interview I felt her wonderful sense of purpose: to inspire women to be the best they can be. She is opinionated, and bends to no one and I found that very refreshing. She is not about the trophies or winning, rather the participation and ultimately the happiness and fun that come from being active and “finding your inner athlete”.
